Project Overview

Excite Technology was appointed to design, supply and install a new commercial audio system for the Bistro at St Luke’s Hospice, Thurrock. The aim was to create a warm, welcoming environment for visitors, patients, families, volunteers and staff through high-quality background music together with a simple-to-operate microphone system for announcements and events.

The Challenge

The Bistro required a discreet, reliable audio solution that blended into the surroundings while providing even sound coverage across the public seating area. Staff also required an easy-to-use music source together with wireless microphones for presentations, fundraising events and community activities.

Professional Audio Solution & Installation

Excite Technology installed a professionally designed 100V commercial audio system featuring a TOA digital mixer amplifier, Denon media player with Bluetooth, four Ecler ceiling loudspeakers and a dual wireless microphone system with handheld and lapel/headset microphones.

New speaker cabling and installation accessories were provided, with all equipment discreetly positioned behind the serving counter for easy operation. The system was fully tested, commissioned and optimised to ensure reliable performance. Staff were also trained to confidently manage music, announcements and events.

A black audio amplifier with labelled knobs sits on a metal shelf, surrounded by wires and boxes—perhaps tucked away in the back room of a Thurrock bistro or even at a community event for St Luke’s Hospice. The shelf below holds cables and more boxes.

Installation

The installation was completed during July 2026 with minimal disruption to the Hospice’s daily activities. The new loudspeakers were recessed into the ceiling for a clean finish, while the head-end equipment was positioned behind the till for convenient access by staff. Following installation the system was fully commissioned and demonstrated.

The Result

The completed audio system provides clear, evenly distributed background music throughout the Bistro while supporting announcements and fundraising events using wireless microphones. The solution complements the calm, welcoming atmosphere of the Hospice and provides an intuitive system that staff can operate with confidence.
